Newcastle Community Heritage Project engaged me to come up with ideas for and write a book of child-led walks around Newcastle's fascinating Ouseburn Valley. I came up with the concept of providing the children with the power of knowledge. Each walk would have questions about the area for the children to ask their adults; the answers would be hidden and only available to them. Working with local children and families, and with designers and businesses around the Valley, we developed the walks in stages, adapting our approach after consultation with them. The book of four walks has been shortlisted for the prestigious BURA Waterways Renaissance Award.
