The Newcastle Partnership's Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a big document setting out long-term plans for the city. The partnership asked me to write a summary version of it, in language that anyone could understand. This involved more than just translation into plain English, of course. It meant working with the planners to understand the salient points of what was quite a technical document, and finding a simple way to make them accessible to anyone. I had plenty of experience of this kind of thing - I worked with service providers, council officers and the public when I wrote the Newcastle Plan and Local Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy  for the city in 2003.
